Ravi Shankar Offers An Evening Raga

Indian-born musician Ravi Shankar is known for his classical Hindustani music. He was a central figure in Indian culture and music, so it was not a surprise when he was asked to participate in the Woodstock festival, although he did not hide his dislike for the venue.
He sat cross-legged on a carpeted platform and played a 45-minute set of Indian rāgas in the rain. Shankar made clear he disapproved of the hippie scene. He grew tired of his music being associated with getting high on recreational drugs instead of spiritual enlightenment.
