Joan Baez, Pregnant But Still Playing

Folk royalty Joan Baez closed the festival’s first night playing in the early hours of Saturday morning. There was much high-energy rock music featured at Woodstock, so it was refreshing to hear her folk songs. Baez’s most memorable was her rendition of Joe Hill’s “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.”
The singer’s appearance was notorious as she was six months pregnant at the time and still managed to deliver a fantastic performance. She gained even more fame for this, although she did not need it. She was already well part of the culture for being a singer of truth through her music.
