Who Knew Journalism Paid so Well: You Won’t Believe How Much Alan Shearer and These Renowned Media Personalities Earn Annually

Laura Kuenssberg – Journalist, £220K

Laura Kuenssberg has an extensive portfolio detailing her exploits as a respected journalist. In 2015, she replaced Nick Robinson as the BBC’s political editor, becoming the first woman to hold that position. Interestingly, she was also the first business editor at “ITV News.”

In 2021, Kuenssberg appeared on the TV Special documentary titled “Dominic Cummings: The Interview.” We also saw her on an episode of “Bird Lives.” With her handful of firsts and experience, it’s no wonder why BBC pays her £220K yearly. In a 2021 interview with “Radio Times,” Kuenssberg didn’t hold back from admitting she gets compensated well, albeit with sacrifices.

Katya Adler – Editor, £220K

In 2021, Katya Adler was the Europe editor for “Newscast,” a role she’d initially landed in 2014. And just like many others on this list, it wasn’t her first BBC-given role. Adler joined the BBC in 1998 in Vienna, immediately becoming a correspondent on Austrian and Central Affairs.

But if she was promised anything, geographical stability wasn’t on the list. And she moved around from Berlin to Madrid and then to the Middle East, where she was based in Jerusalem. In 2021 BBC’s report revealed Adler had a £220K salary, covering her occasional appearances on the network’s documentaries.

Fiona Bruce – Presenter, £450K

Fiona Bruce is not only one of the U.K.’s most easily recognized faces on TV, but she’s also one of BBC’s most loyal employees. Since joining as a researcher in 1989, she’s remained with them and taken giant strides. So when her salary was revealed to be in the £450K to £455K range, we weren’t surprised.

Bruce holds the title of being the first female newsreader on “BBC News at Ten.” Programs like “Crimewatch,” “Antique Roads,” and “Fake or Fortune” are some other programs she’s worked on. In 2020, she was assigned to present BBC One’s “Question Time,” a role she holds to date.
